Year 1 – Lickey Hills Primary School and Nursery

A warm welcome to our Year 1 children and parents. Welcome to your second year as part of our St. Joseph’s family. Over the year, you will find lots of information about our class. In Year 1 we follow the National Curriculum. We will be working as a team to provide exciting and creative learning opportunities for children, to learn and develop confidence.

Throughout the school year we post photos and information all about the fun and exciting things we have been learning in class and in the great outdoors.

Useful information

PE days – Our PE day is Wednesday afternoon. Please make sure your child removes any jewellery and has their PE kits in school.

Reading Books – Reading books and diaries should be in school everyday. Please encourage your child to read at least three times a week. Reading helps all aspects of our learning.

Collins Big Cat eBook library – We are now assigning your child an eBook to read at home alongside their reading book. This eBook will be a book that your child also reads in class 3x a week. We’re looking for fluency with these books. Collins Big Cat eBook library can run on most android or iOS device. http://ebooks.collinsopenpage.com/ Follow the link and enter your username and password to access your child’s eBook. Any issues please contact a member of the Year 1 team.

Learning logs – We send out homework tasks weekly for children to complete. Children can complete these tasks in their learning log books or photos and videos of these tasks can be sent on your child’s portfolio on our Class Dojo’s website. Children are awarded Dojo points for tasks that have been completed.

Behaviour – At St Josephs we follow 3 simple rules. We need to be READY, RESPECTFUL and SAFE. What will you do to be READY, RESPECTFUL and SAFE? The year 1 team will look out for children following these rules. Will you receive a recognition award?
